Calories Burned Walking vs. Running

Do you wonder, "How many calories do you burn walking?" or "How many calories do you burn running?" Read on to get the answers.

For a long time we've been taught that exercise is all about the 'no pain, no gain' principle: run every morning and you'll burn the excess calories. However, there is an easier but not less effective way to burn calories.

Walking may be even more effective than running. You can walk more miles than you can run, can't you?

Our body needs about 20 minutes to begin burning a greater percentage of fat than carbs. So you must run for over 20 minutes to dig into the fat stores. Can you run so long? It's not easy. I cannot do that.

You can burn calories by walking. Extra miles burn extra calories. You can walk anywhere at any time. This will help you stay in shape and improve your health.

Walk for an hour, skip a candy bar—by the end of the week you'll lose a pound!

This is simple arithmetic: To lose one pound per week, you need to cut off 3500 calories per week, i.e. 500 calories per day. You can reduce your caloric intake by 250 calories a day and burn 250 calories a day through regular walking. You should walk for 30-60 minutes most days of the week. So how many calories does walking burn?

I like the way you break down how to lose a pound by walking and cutting calories. When walking, it's also helpful to wear a pedometer to calculate number of steps and distance.
