Choosing a pedometer

A pedometer clipped to your clothes can motivate you to walk more. Walking 10,000 steps a day is a healthy goal.

Consumer Reports tested a dozen pedometers. Prices ranged from $12 to more than $50. Premium Pedometer from Omron that costs $35 appeared to be one of the most accurate.

A $20 pedometer called the Freestyle Tracer was named a best buy. It's a little bit less accurate than the Omron but it's cheaper. Freestyle Tracer tracks distance in miles, kilometers or steps. Also, it calculates calories burnt.
