Is yoga good for weight loss?

Does Hatha yoga burn enough calories to be effective for weight loss?

The American Council on Exercise argues Hatha yoga, the most common type of yoga practiced in the U.S, burns very little calories. While Hatha yoga is great for increasing flexibility, strength, balance and muscle tone, you may need a more vigorous type of yoga if your goal is to lose weight:

The study concluded that while the yoga group showed numerous improvements in strength and endurance as well as improved balance and flexibility, they did not burn a significant amount of calories. In fact, one 50-minute session of Hatha yoga burns just 144 calories, similar to a slow walk.

Yoga

Yoga is more than just diet and exercise. It's very much a philosophy which includes care for oneself and the environment around us. This encourages reducing waste in forms of what we eat, use, and throw away. Diet and exercise tend to be temporary fixtures in a person's life. Yoga is meant to stick around for the long haul.
