weight loss motivation

It's very true that crash diets don't work. You need to find your motivation to exercise and eat healthily and maintain that motivation.

Body Workout

Indeed crash dieting can only lead to weight gain. Losing weight is not an easy job. If you want to lose weight and maintain it, you have to work on it. Even most surgeries aren't long-term. After losing weight from whatever method used, you have to maintain it or you'll go back to your old self again.

I agree, losing weight the healthy way is a long term commitment. Probably worse than anything else are pills that artificially increase your metabolism. They can cause heart problems and other health issues. If you're going to increase your metabolism, you should do it naturally.

Eve, you're absolutely right. Crash dieting may seem a quick solution, but, from statistics, 90% of crash dieters put the weight back on within a short period of time. There might be other health risks too.

Crash dieting - super obese

Which is one of my major concern's for ABC's Extreme Makeover Weight Loss. each Monday at 10 some super obese person is shown losing 100's of pounds in just a year's time. Is that healthy? Normal? Safe? What are they doing to drop that quick AND what are the long term consequences of such rapid weight loss? seems terribly sketchy and unhealthy

RE: Crash dieting - super obese

If a person is super obese, the health risks caused by losing weight rapidly under medical supervision can be lower than obesity-related risks. A very low-calorie diet can be prescribed by a physician to help the patient achieve a significant weight loss. This is definitely not the way to go if you are trying to lose weight on your own. This is definitely not a healthy way to lose weight, but in this case we are not talking about healthy weight loss, we are talking about minimizing the risks caused by obesity.
